| In essense WW3 would be a rerun of WW1 in the pacific rim, an unexpectedly rapid escalations of long existing tensions and military commitments beyond anyones control. The UN would be about as much use as the League of Nations was prior to WW2, given that the two primary combatants have permament seats on the security council. Military estimates suggest that it will take only 2 weeks for the PLA to overwhelm th Taiwanese defense, I have a gut feeling that those will turn out like the ten days it was meant to take the germans to invade Belgium, decisively in error. It will feel and happen much like this financial crisis, rapidly, faster than anyone can understand or predict until suddenly it's happening and noone really knows how we got here. | |

| It's interesting that China could call in the USAs debt, bankrupting them, but they won't. And why not? Becauseit would Bankrupt themselves.
So, all the CSCS needs to do is make sure every nation that could cause a problem in Indebted to us, and we're safe. They try to attack us, we call in the debt. | |

| Em, quite the opposite I would have thought. Going to war with a country you owe money to has long been a traditional method of getting out of paying off your debts. It's actually a compelling reason for the US to commit to the war with China, China has so much foreign currency reserves that having them frozen would be seriously debilitating. | |

| What I meant was make it so all other nations that could cause trouble can't, because it would damage their economy almost irrepareably. | |

| That is only a valid tactic against a functional democracy accountable to its population who desire a successful econnomy. Unfortunately most of the 'troublesome' countries are neither functional nor democracies and so are free to persue priorities other than economic wellbeing. | |
