There's a character limit to topic titles

But anyway, right now on this forum we have one Universal Utilitarian, two Federal Nightwatchmen statists, and one... Martian (Republic, that is ).

At this point, we already know what the others think. I wonder if we can come to some sort of compromise?

"Just go make a UU community in one of our states" is not an acceptable compromise on this one. First of all, that's not a compromise. Second, that leaves the many unfavorable ...

A suggestion for an Election

I've posted this over at NewMars.

It's about the Democracy/Efficiency tradeoff. Basically, when voting for a candidate (for instance, it could be a bill or proposition as well) you have to answer a short, multiple choice/true or false quiz on their policies. If you completely fail the test and only get questions right due to seer luck, your vote won't be counted (or will be counted, but as 1/10 of a normal vote, with the worth of your vote rising the better your score is). To use the recent ...

100 trillion of credit for government projects, in 50 year!

The topic is government generated credit in a credit system and how much credit should be created and used for what purposes?

I believe in really big government, with really big budgets, that generate really economies as a result of those really big investments in the infrastructure of that Nations economy that the government has to built up. I am talking about generated credit out of thin air vs tax money from the people. The topic of this thread is government generated credit and how much ...

Democracy Vs Republican System of Government

I did a Google search on the differences between a Democracy and a Republic. The basic difference is that a Democracy can be a tyrant of the majority against the minority or the individual and a Republican System has a Constitution for the express purpose of defending the individual or the minority group of people. The primary difference being an unlimited authority of the majority in a Democracy that becomes tyranny vs a limited authority of the majority under a Constitutional Republic with ...

I have an interesting topic. Is there anyway Fascism would ever work in a new society? I mean, the fact is it did do good thing for germans, italians, and chileans. However, it leads to corruption and other things we're familiar with (holocaust).

So could Fascism ever work??

Levels of Government

To use America as an example, we have an overarching layer (the Federal government), moving down to the state layer, through the county layer, and ending at the town layer.

Obviously, there are somethings that should be organized at a Federal layer, defence for instance. I see the Federal layer as a sort of net, which connects the states. This layer is responisble for Defence, and serves to support projects states might not be able to do on their own (Space Programs for instance). Basic ...

Something that really gets on my nerves about the world is that I'm denied the right to vote simply because I'm under 18. I could evaluate the issues and make an informed vote better than a lot of adults (the Votes of the Ignorant?), but I'm not allowed to vote.

So the question is this: At what age should people be allowed to vote? The system would have to be safeqaurded of course from Parents/Guardians/Whoever using their childrens votes. Maybe that could be accomplished by having the voting ...

I think a true Republic thats doesn't censore freedom of speech (such as in Europe where some nations make racism illegal) and a libertarian society with capitalist ideals.

Now that we've decided that it is easier to tweak current systems of government than create whole new ones, lets examine some of the minor (or major) flaws that might need correcting.

I started this thread as a response to something I read in wikipedia:

"The City of Kawartha Lakes (population 74,561) is a city in east-central Ontario, Canada. Although designated as a "city", it is a largely rural area.

The main population centres of the 'city' are:
