Here is my proposal for a constitution. Words in brackets are words beign used until better words can be found.

_______________________________________________

Preamble

We, the people of the [CSCS], define our rights and systems of government here in our constitution.

Rights

The [CSCS] recognizes the basic rights of humans being:

1. The right not to be harmed. Harm is defined as something which causes them pain, or unneccersary change to their mental or physical ...

I managed to come up with these three so far:

1. The right not to be harmed. Harm is defined as something which causes them pain, or unneccersary change to their mental or physical state.

2. The right not to be interfered with, unless it is justified by the above right.

3. The right to do anything that does not violate the rights of other people, as defined above.

However, I'm thinking that 2 and 3 could be conditional, especially in the context of a Fderal Nightwatmen/Minarchist ...

I haven't written anything in a while so I thought it was about time I did! I thought I'd write something about the economics behind the whole CSCS concept; sorta the business case for it. Here are some ideas to consider:

The CSCS will be a self-sustainable economic island of stability. The world as it is today is vulnerable to the effects of diminishing resources, whether that is oil, agriculturally productive land, water, or any other resource. If one of these resources runs out too quickly, ...

Before we start forking out the dough for something that "reduces" our impact on anthropogenic global warming, perhaps a conclusion should be reached on the actual scale and causes of global climate change.

Contrary to what Al Gore would like people to believe, scientific consensus on the causes, impacts, effects, scale, etc. of global ...

It’s not population, I don’t know many people who would place Mumbai or Karachi, the most populous cities, on the top of the list. In summary, the locations suggested are:

-Antarctica: Specifically the marie byrd land, which is unclaimed.

-South Australia

-The Rocha district is Uruguay

-The Upernavic or another region of greenland

-The Vanatinai province in papua new guinea

-As a boat or some such in the ocean

I think we should regard this poll as final.

Quote:The debate as to which system is better is long-running and unlikely to reach a single conclusion. There are arguments for and against both systems.

The first to file system leads to procedural certainty as the filing date of an application can very rarely be challenged. In contrast, the first to invent system leads to uncertainty as the right to grant of a patent can be challenged by a second ...

Hydroponics, to put it very simply, is soil-free agriculture. Plants are grown in either a support medium such as expanded clay or floating trays. Nutrients are supplied via water directly to the plants' roots through a drip or flood type irrigation system. The advantages of this lies in nearly weed and disease free growing conditions and crop density. An acre of land growing corn could be converted to an intense hydroponic system, exponentially increasing food production and efficiency.

"A more extreme, but highly efficient, method to smooth the loads on roads, and at the same time make traffic highly predictable, is to introduce staggered work start times which extend throughout the day and night. How should such a society organise a military force? Should it be like the Swiss, the French (foriegn leigon), the Americans (volunteer), the Soviets (conscription) or some other method that has not been tried yet?

How should such a force be equipped? Paid? Trained?

I think it's time to return to the 'where this city should be' debate. And I think it needs its own thread.

Besides the original Australian location Somalia was suggested as offering certain advantages but I've come to thing that perhaps a clean slate city state also needs a cleanslate location.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantropa

Perhaps what's needed is a clean slate geography from which to pick a clean slate location, so forgetting the bit about daming the med how about we flood ...

There are currently only really three methods of running a national health service in practice at the moment, a taxation based socialized health service, an insurance based service, and a fee based service. They each have their problems, the taxation based service works from a fixed budget which means more expensive treatments become difficult to pay for while the insurance and fee based service tend to lead to health exclusion for the worse off. There is however a deeper and more insidious ...

There seems to be two main problems facing education today, firstly day by day the vast volume of information available that could be usefully learned is increasing exponentially yet our ability to teach it to those who wish to learn has not. Secondly the realization that everyone is different and the most effective teaching method varies from person to person, one size fits no one.

I would start with a suggestion of abandoning the agricultural year and moving to an industrialized one, i.e. ...

I was in my history class a few days ago, and the teacher said something that I think everyone here would appreciate, and see the validity of. Basically, it was this: New ideas (like those by Marx, Protestant Reformation, the prelude to the French Revolution etc) lead to Revolutions (enacting the new ideas), which leads to war and chaos between the new ideas and the old. This in turn leads to more new ideas.

Examples: Protestant Reformation:

I feel that an important factor in international cooperation is language. There are just too many languages to learn in order to establish international cooperation. I'm not so arrogant as to think that everyone should learn English. English is far from being a good language, but every language has some good aspects and some bad. If we could take all the goods and build an international language around them this would be a big step in international cooperation.

Clean Slate system of Measurement

After reading the decimal time thread, I thought about revamping the entire measurement system.

1. Start with base twelve for counting. Ten is divisible by only 2 and 5.

Twelve is divisible by 2,3,4,6. Sixty is even better 2,3,4,5,6,12,15,20,30.

2. Metric was built around water as a base to build measuring systems around, I like that. But length needs to be based on a more universal segment. Velocity can be based on the speed of light in a vacuum, and from there I suppose we could ...

No true clean slate solution can can possibly not fix our bizarre calendar.

A second is an SI unit measure in base 10, so it follows logically that there really should be 100 seconds to the minute, a hundred minutes to the hour, a day is the precise length it's calculated to be to the milisecond as controlled from a central nuclear clock, with a steady 365 days in a year a week can become five days long with a one day weekend and thus there is exactly 73 weeks in a year which breaks down ...

I think that the judicial systems of the world have got it wrong. The point of a judicial system in my opinion, is primarily to make sure that the defendant doesn't do the crime again, not to make sure that they are punished. If someone thinks that the defendant should be punished, they can sue. (In this case, you can sue for anything, up to and including the death penalty)

So basically, instead of crime and punishment, crime and correction.

However, as the punishment serves to deter ...

This has happened in a largely ad hoc manner without consultation as the rise of information technology has allowed business to database it's consumers and their every purchase, government to increasingly, though to a lesser degree than the private sector, document its citizens,.
Clean-Slate Policies

Here, I will post some ideas for this clean-slate city-state's official policies.

First off, I think lotteries should be disallowed. They are unethical by the way in which they ensnare the lower class with a tempting but false promise of instant riches without work. I think many countries have banned lotteries already. The ones that haven't banned them usually exploit them by requiring most of the profits to be returned to the state. But to me, this is perhaps even more unethical, as it ...

One can imagine that the creation of a new country, in the same way as the United States, is possible; that there are no really detrimental show-stoppers to this possibility.

One can even imagine that the conditions are favorable for the support of at least the idea of a clean-slate country.

Let us at least imagine the potential possibilities and opportunities, if for only the sake of arts.

What things stand as significant obstacles?

What are the potential benefits?
